Self-paced or live: how to choose an AI course

How to pick an AI course in India that actually gets you job-ready: format, proof of skill, projects, cost and the red flags to avoid.

There is no best format, only the one that fits how you study. Use these questions before paying anyone, including us.

1. How will you prove what you learned?

A certificate for watching videos proves attendance. Look for graded labs, timed exams and public projects an employer can open.

2. Is the syllabus built from real job descriptions?

In 2026, most AI-engineer postings ask for production skills: LLM APIs, retrieval (RAG), evaluation, deployment. Check that these have full modules, not a single video.

3. What does it really cost?

Add the course fee, paid API keys, GPU time and how many months you'll need at your real weekly hours. Part-time live bootcamps typically cost ₹2–6.5 lakh (Scaler fee guide, Aug 2026).

4. Red flags in course marketing

  • Placement percentages without the total batch size, the period and how they were counted.
  • "Limited seats" or countdowns that reset when you reload the page.
  • Company logos presented as "hiring partners" without a named, checkable arrangement.
  • Testimonials without full names, or that you can't verify.
  • Refund rules you can only read after paying.

Indian rules on misleading advertising in the coaching sector (CCPA, 2024) and on dark patterns (CCPA, 2023) already prohibit several of these practices.

5. Choose live if…

You need a fixed timetable and a teacher in the room to study at all.

Choose self-paced if…

You study around college or work, want to move faster than a batch, and want to redo anything.
